Monstera Macrame DIY Craft

This DIY monstera macrame is inexpensive, eco-friendly (for the most part), and very charming. Macrame is a lovely handmade artwork that gives a boho and chic vibe to any room. Combining macrame with a tropical theme, we created this monstera macrame decoration. It’s so easy to make at home. The only time consuming parts were combing through the macrame (especially if you don’t have a proper comb), and waiting for the glue to dry.

This is definitely a beginner-medium level type of craft. 🙂

Cost of the Monstera Macrame Decoration

This really doesn’t cost a ton, and you’ll have plenty of macrame for other projects too. I probably used a quarter of the macrame string. Use whatever glue you have at home, and for the branch piece that the leaves hang from, we took a hike up the nearby canyon and found it free.

A note about the branch: The branch had already fallen on the ground and weathered naturally. This is why I liked it. Plus the shape and size were exactly what I’d been looking for. Don’t worry about spending tons of money on a branch, as you can find one yourself or use other objects that look nice, like a wooden dowel or string of lights.

Materials

Macrame – You can choose any color that you wish. Also feel free to mix and match colors–the leaves don’t need to be only one color. For example, there are varieties of monstera leaves that have white streaks through them. So if you’d like to get white and green macrame, that’s totally acceptable. 🙂

Where can you purchase the macrame? Ours was gifted but you can purchase it on amazon or at the craft store. We have the 3mm cord but if you happen to get something larger or smaller than that, it should still work just fine!

Scissors – The sharper, the better. It can get tedious trimming and shaping the leaves if your scissors are dull.

Comb – I used a hair comb and it worked perfectly fine!

Glue – Modge Podge was readily available in our house so that’s what we used. The ideal situation is to use a spray/fabric glue.

Brush – If using modge podge, you will need a brush to apply it to the monstera macrame leaf.

Branch or dowel to hang the leaves – You can use pretty much anything to hang the leaves. You can even hand the leaves alone with a nail in the wall. The possibilities are truly endless with this DIY craft project!
