the bet way to overcome self doubt

Do you want to know the best way to overcome self doubt? Self doubt causes feelings of unworthiness, anxiety, lack of confidence, and even depression. It de-motivates you from doing what you really want to do.

Even if you have all the resources and tools you need to reach your dreams, self doubt is a silent killer. It makes you feel like you’re simply “not enough” and that no matter how hard you try, you’ll never make it.

So what is the best way to overcome self doubt?

The answer is simpler than you think, and while it comes from a very religious perspective, please take a chance.

Turn to Jesus Christ.

Nothing is impossible with the Savior. When you turn to Him, He can heal your self doubt, help you see who you really are, and give you a lasting confidence.

Know who Jesus Christ is

Do you know who Jesus Christ is?

A lot of people know a history of Christ’s life. You may even be able to recite some prayers, share some stories, and give some interesting facts about his life. So you might know about him, but do you know him?

When a person knows Jesus Christ, they understand the powerful role he can play in their lives. Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Because of His Atonement, everything that is unfair will be made right. Our wounds can heal. We can feel hopeful, happy, and at peace because of Him.

Make an effort to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, because the more you do so, the more you’ll see what He sees in you!

Move forward

We all make mistakes or have done things we’re not proud of. These failures, mistakes, and setbacks cause us to feel unworthy and have self doubt. But Jesus Christ has already rescued us from our sins, mistakes, and errors. He has already paid the ultimate price.

And because of Him, we can overcome our self doubt.

Do you ever worry that you’ll fall into old patterns, habits, and ways? How often do you stop yourself from doing something because you’re worried that you haven’t changed enough?

Here’s the truth: Change is possible, because of Jesus Christ.

We don’t have to be stuck in old ways, wallowing in mistakes we made in the past. Jesus Christ makes it possible to become new. In fact He tells us we can become “new creatures” in Him.

Turn to Christ, let Him help you remove the burden of your sins, mistakes, and past. He loves you, and won’t judge you.

Have faith in Him

Do you ever feel like people don’t care about you or your projects? This can cause some serious self doubt.

There are some of us who can self-validate or fake it til we make it, but not everyone has this sort of inner confidence. Some people need to know that another person cares.

Even when you have people who care, know that there is one person who always cares about and is interested in your life: Jesus Christ.

He wants you to succeed, and, as you have faith in Him, your efforts will be multiplied.

I recently gave a talk about Mary, the mother of Jesus, and here’s what I learned about having faith in Jesus Christ.

Mary teaches us who to trust and turn to

At a wedding in Cana, Mary asked Jesus to turn the water to wine. We can learn several lessons from this example. The first is that Mary knew who to turn to: the Savior. It didn’t matter that he was her son, she knew who he truly was. Do we turn to the Savior when we need help?

The second lesson is that the Savior is interested in our lives and wants to help us. Turning water to wine wasn’t something that needed to be done for our eternal salvation. It was a temporal, secular thing that Mary needed help with, and because it was important to Mary, it was important to Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Do we realize how often Jesus Christ gives us strength on a day to day basis? President Nelson said that “The Lord loves effort,” and this is true. When we put in our effort, Jesus Christ will help make up the rest.

A personal example

For example, the last couple of weeks I’ve been struggling to write the ending of one of my books. I rewrote it about 3-4 times. This is frustrating for me—usually I can write something once, edit it a few times, and it’s good to go. But I rewrote this ending 3-4 times.

Each time it got better, but the motivation to get to my writing was really hard, because all I could think about was how hard this ending was, and how it wasn’t coming together the way I wanted it to. But… I knew if I put in the effort and did my best, it would come.

What I didn’t realize—or perhaps I’d forgotten—was that the Lord was helping me with my writing. My writing is important to me. My books are something that’s meaningful and will help other people. So if it’s important to me, it’s important to the Savior too.

My books aren’t for the salvation of someone’s soul, but it is an earthly endeavor that I really care about and hope will help others. The Savior wants to help us with the things that are important to us, just as he wanted to help his mother with something that was important to her. She put in the effort and asked, knowing who she could turn to, and Jesus helped do the rest. I hope Mary’s example encourages us to turn to Jesus at any time.

Overcome self doubt with Jesus Christ

Our Savior wants you to succeed. He loves you and has done literally everything for you to have peace in this life and the world to come. Turn to Him, and your self doubt will melt away.

In conclusion

I know this was a little bit of a different article from my other ones, but turning to Jesus Christ is so deeply important. Don’t get distracted by the world saying you must do “this” or “that” to become successful. Overcome self doubt by turning to the Savior of the world, the man who loves you more than life itself.
