Do you want to learn how to set yourself up for success? Maybe you finally decided on a new goal, dream, creative endeavor, or business.
So… now what?
How can you make it easy on yourself so that you have every chance of succeeding?
The answer is to set yourself up for success!
In this article we’ll explore how to set yourself up for success through a few simple tips and strategies. If you really put your mind to something, you can do it. But why not make it easier on yourself by setting yourself up to succeed? Let’s dive right in!
“If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail”
We all hate this quote, but it’s so true. Setting yourself up for success is all about preparation.
If you want to wake up and exercise in the morning, set your alarm and have your clothes ready to go.
Trying to eat healthier? Stop buying unhealthy foods that will tempt you. Take time to sit down, make a plan, and stick to it.
Need more time to work on a creative project? Evaluate where your time is going. Are you spending it on social media? Are there distractions around you, like a tv, that take you away from your work? Is there a space you can go to work on your project?
Give yourself options, time, and space so that you have every possible outcome of success. In other words, prepare, plan, and then execute. Be a doer and dreamer, not just a dreamer.
Ask for help
Sometimes we need an accountability partner. Having someone to report to helps you take your goals more seriously. Find someone you can trust, like a family member or close friend. Set a time that either you check in with them or they check on you. The more detailed you get with your expectations and accountability schedule, the better.
Remember, even if you ask for help you can set yourself up for success! Make it easy to check in with each other and report how you’re doing.
Make it easier
Some people have systems, some people have strategies, and others have plans. All of these are wonderful options to work smarter, but not always harder.
Obviously don’t overdo it with planning yet do nothing. Create a plan so you can follow through with the action. Be a doer and a dreamer, not just a dreamer. 🙂
When my husband and I started the Kanani Life blog, we were all over the place, sporadically making videos, posting an article here or there. The structure and systems weren’t in place. It took a few planning and discussion sessions to get everything set up, but once we knew our roles, then got the systems and plans in place, Kanani Life blossomed.
Things started getting done. Videos were posted. Articles and content built up. The audience began to grow.
None of that would have happened if we hadn’t taken the time to work smarter, not harder. It’s easy to feel like a chicken with its head cut off, especially when you undertake a big project.
But give yourself the time to get organized, set up your space, and get into new habits. You won’t be perfect at your new goals and systems at first, because habits take time to build. So enjoy the journey, be willing to make changes and accommodations to your plans as necessary, and keep moving forward.
Have self confidence
Many people have talked to us, sharing wonderful dreams and ambitions. They go on and on about what they would do, whether it’s spending more time with the kids, traveling, building something, creating, and so forth.
“But I just don’t have ____ (time, money, space, talent, etc),” they say. Is it that they really don’t have ___ (fill in the blank), or is it that they lack confidence?
Some people are too lazy to do things, but, more often than not, people don’t really believe they can reach their dreams. They lack confidence, a belief in their skills and abilities.
A way to counter this is to set yourself up for success. What is one thing you can do today that will lead you to that dream?
When you can do even one thing, it encourages and motivates you to do something else. Setting yourself up for success is not rocket science. It’s a simple strategy to get you up and moving, to get you started, or push you forward.
Even at times, during your creative journey, where you might feel stuck, use this strategy to get yourself unstuck. What is one aspect of your creative process that you can do a better job of setting yourself up for success?

As you plan and prepare ahead of time, know that you’re well on your way to doing those things you love and creating the kanani life, the beautiful life. You got this!
